About Port Wine
We produce our wines exclusively with distilled grape spirits in the Douro Valley in the northern provinces of Portugal. Port wines are very sweet and typically consumed as a dessert beverage.
Port earned its name in the 17th Century after the seaport called Porto, located at the mouth of the Douro Valley. That makes ports one of the purest wines.
Clean young wines are mixed with pressed harvested grapes. This is the fortification process that boosts the alcohol content and leaves residual sugars in the wine. It’s then aged for about 18 months in oak barrels or casks.
Styles of Port You Can Buy Online
Ports come in a wide variety of styles, similar to red blends. Ruby, tawny, white, rosé, and vintage are all styles of port wine.
What some people don’t realize is that vermouth is actually a kind of port wine. Usually used as an ingredient in a variety of cocktails, it’s actually a type of aromatized wine. We’re proud to offer a wide variety of vermouths as part of our dessert and fortified wine collection.
