What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than with a layered cocktail or two? Whether you’re celebrating with friends and family or enjoying an intimate night with a special someone, nothing goes better with July 4th than a festive cocktail. Here are just three of our favorites to inspire you. Enjoy!

4th of July Margarita

We’re going with a margarita for this cocktail. If you like blended, then the slushier your recipe, the easier it is to layer. You’re going to need a lot of ice and two glasses for this red, white, and blue layered drink. You can serve it in a margarita glass, but a highball will better show your layers.

All layers get:

The red layer then gets 2 ounces grenadine, the blue layer gets 2 ounces blue curaçao, and the white layer gets 2 ounces lime juice.

Blend or shake the ingredients for each layer one at a time. Divide the layers evenly between your two glasses as you go. Serve this layered cocktail immediately.

4th of July Milkshake

Keep things cool this Independence Day with a beautifully layered adult milkshake. One of the best parts is you can make this recipe without the booze for the kids then add your vodka after for the adults. You only need four ingredients to make this red, white, and blue layered drink.

  • 3 ounces cake vodka
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring

Optional: garnish with whipped cream and/or red, white, and blue sprinkles.

Blend the vodka and ice cream in a blender until smooth. Split the mixture into three separate containers. Add red food coloring to one third and blue food coloring to a second third and stir. In tall glasses, layer the red, white, and blue mixtures and top with optional garnishes if desired.

4th of July Rocket Jello Shots

Okay, shots aren’t exactly a layered cocktail, but these are too fun not to include. Make this red, white, and blue layered drink to impress your guests.

Blue layer:

  • ½ cup water, boiled
  • 1 box instant blueberry Jell-O
  • ½ cup vodka

Red layer:

  • ½ cup water, boiled
  • 1 box instant cherry Jell-O
  • ½ cup vodka

White layer:

  • 1 envelope gelatin
  • 1 cup milk, divided
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup vodka

There’s a significant amount of vodka in this recipe, so drink responsibly!

For both the red and blue layers, in two separate bowls, combine the boiling water with the respective Jell-O mixes. Stir until completely dissolved, then stir in the vodka. Let both the mixtures cool.

For the white layer of this red, white, and blue layered drink, in a medium bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over ¼ cup of milk. In a small pan, bring the remaining ¾ cup of milk to a simmer. Turn off the heat, then stir in sugar, vanilla, and vodka.

Pour the heated milk mixture over the gelatin milk mixture. Stir until it’s all completely dissolved, then let it cool for 10 minutes.

Lightly spray 20 2-ounce shot glasses with cooking spray. Spoon 1 tablespoon of the blue Jell-O mixture into the bottom of each and refrigerate for about 15 minutes until set (but not completely firm). Add 1 tablespoon of the white mixture to each and refrigerate for about 10 minutes. Finish this red, white, and blue layered drink with 1 tablespoon of the red Jell-O mixture and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours.
